John Tracy, Texas Water Resources Institute

John Tracy serves as Director of the Texas Water Resources Institute at Texas A&M University. Dr. Tracy has led research initiatives on understanding and developing sustainable water resource management practices in basins across the western United States. As an academic administrator he works with private, state, regional and federal entities in the development of programs that more effectively support their water and environmental resource management objectives. His recent work has focused on developing an integrated understanding of the behavior of water resource systems under the influence of changing hydrologic-economic-social conditions.

"Increased competition for the use of water from aquifers may negatively affect future agricultural practices in drier regions of the U.S. This problem needs to be addressed by encouraging locally-suited governance efforts and engagement and avoiding promoting policies that focus on quick fixes. ”
